Precise bent parts for one-offs, small batches and demanding structures – from a simple angle to a part with multiple bends, combined on request with laser cutting, punching, welding and further operations.
Bending forms a previously cut blank into shape along defined bend lines, turning flat blanks into three-dimensional parts – from simple angles and sections to complex enclosures with multiple bends. Our focus is on demanding one-offs, small batches and custom work, where it is not just the correct angle that counts but the interplay of design, material and the operations that follow. Bending stainless steel
Bending stainless steel means allowing for the specific properties of the material: grade, sheet thickness, bend radius and the intended geometry all affect the result. Springback matters particularly – once the tool is released, the material moves slightly back towards its original shape. This has to be allowed for in production so that the finished part really achieves the required angle. The orientation of a bend relative to the rolling direction of the sheet can also be relevant on demanding designs. We therefore look not at the individual bend but at the whole part and how it will be used.
Bending aluminium
With aluminium, too, material and temper are decisive: formability and the bend radii required differ considerably between alloys and conditions. Too tight a radius can crack the outside of the bend, while springback and surface requirements have to be taken into account as well. With visible aluminium parts, careful handling of the surface during processing matters a great deal. We therefore match design, tooling and sequence to the part in hand.
Multi-bend and complex sheet metal parts
A single 90-degree angle is usually straightforward. It becomes more demanding with parts that have several bend lines, differing angles, tight spacing or existing cut-outs – here the design itself decides whether the part can be made reliably. Among the things we take into account:
Bend radius
The appropriate inside radius depends on material, sheet thickness and design.
Springback
Stainless steel and aluminium behave differently when formed – the intended final angle is allowed for accordingly.
Bending sequence
With multi-bend parts the order of the bends is decisive – otherwise the part gets in the way of its own later bends.
Holes and cut-outs
Cut-outs placed too close to a bend line can distort during forming.
Flange lengths and tool access
Not every geometry that can be drawn can sensibly be bent with standard tooling – we check tool access too.
From the flat blank to the precise bent part
Good bending starts before the press brake: if a flat blank is to become a dimensionally accurate three-dimensional part, bend allowance, radii and material behaviour have to be accounted for in the flat pattern. That is why we match laser cutting or punching and the subsequent bending to one another.
Only when the flat pattern matches how the material actually bends will the outside dimensions, hole positions and mating faces be right in the end.
Bending for small batches and custom work
We make bent sheet metal parts above all where flexibility is needed – individual special parts as well as small batches with recurring dimensions and quality requirements. On new designs we help to make the part easier to manufacture: small changes to the design will often reduce the work involved, avoid additional operations or improve the repeatability of a small batch.
Bending, welding and assembly from one source
Many bent parts are a stage on the way to a finished product. On request we therefore take on the entire process:
This lets us align fits and mating faces with the later welded structure as early as cutting and bending. With complex enclosures, frames and special structures in particular, that reduces coordination effort and avoids unnecessary interfaces.
